RSVP seeks volunteers to staff tourism welcome center

The SUNY Oswego-cosponsored Retired and Senior Volunteers Program is recruiting volunteers to staff the O’Mara Welcome Center, the county tourism information center in a restored one-room schoolhouse on State Route 104 adjacent to the college’s Romney Field House.

The center, which opened for the season May 28, is staffed 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday and selected Saturday mornings.  Typically, volunteers work with partners once a week, either the morning or afternoon shift, or less frequently as substitutes.

RSVP volunteers ages 55 and older serve as goodwill ambassadors to greet visitors, offer literature and directions, and help sustain Oswego County’s tourism industry.  They receive mileage reimbursement, supplemental insurance coverage while volunteering and are recognized for their contribution.

To volunteer, call the RSVP office at 312-2317.  RSVP is a federal initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is sponsored locally by SUNY Oswego and the United Way.
