Star-viewing event slated at observatory

The SUNY Oswego Astronomy Club will host its spring “Stars over Oswego” telescope viewing event at the Romney Field Observatory at 9 p.m. Thursday, May 3.

This free event allows the public to view Saturn, Venus and star clusters in real time through telescopes. A tour of the spring constellations will also be given.

Telescopes include a portable eight-inch reflector and a 5.5-inch “goto” telescope, said Dr. Scott Roby, Astronomy Club adviser.

The rain date will be Friday, May 4, at the same time.

Those interested in attending should call 312-2790 after 6 p.m. that day (or the rain date) to see if the event is canceled due to clouds. No reservations are required.

The observatory is behind the Romney commuter parking lot on Route 104 West, the portion of the SUNY Oswego campus south of Route 104.
