RSVP volunteer orientation to include Tree Stewards, Driving Books Home

Representatives of Tree Stewards and Driving Books Home will make presentations on their programs as part of SUNY Oswego RSVP’s volunteer orientation at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at O’Mara Welcome Center, Route 104 adjacent to the college’s Romney Field House.

Tree Stewards coordinators Phil and June MacArthur will discuss their program caring for city of Oswego trees at 10:45 a.m., followed by Terie Delahunt-Dano’s 11 a.m. presentation on Driving Books Home, a program that offers ways for volunteers to share their love of reading with children and help staff the Oswego Bookmobile this summer.

The orientation session is aimed toward mature adults wondering, “What is there to do?” and who feel a desire to give back but are unsure where to turn.

In addition to recruiting, placing and supporting volunteers, RSVP offers Mature Living, a free bimonthly newsletter with news and information that is national and local in scope and of interest to older Americans. For more information or to sign up for this or future orientation sessions, call 312-2317 or email

Nationally, RSVP reached its 40th anniversary this year. It is part of a nationwide network of Senior Corps programs, sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Each of the more than 700 programs nationally is sponsored by a nonprofit agency. In Oswego County, SUNY Oswego and the United Way sponsor RSVP, headquartered in Room 103 of Rich Hall at the college.
