Tea, fashion to flavor sesquicentennial event

Tea, fashions, food and stories will provide the main threads for an upcoming sesquicentennial event.

Measuring and modeling for A Fashionable High TeaMindy Ostrow, left, former assistant director SUNY Oswego’s Tyler Art Gallery, models an ensemble from the 1910s while Judy McCabe, the theatre department’s costume shop supervisor, measures in preparation for “A Fashionable High Tea,” a sesquicentennial celebration of fashion and music through the eras since the college was founded in 1861 as the Oswego Primary Teachers’ Training School. The show will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Those attending will sip tea and nibble sweets as they view a video montage along with the fashions, which will include two garments from the Kathy Hilton spring couture line, courtesy of 2009 alumnus and designer Elias Gutierrez, as well as interactive activities, a trivia contest spanning 150 years, photo opportunities and a commemorative teacup and saucer. NewsChannel9 reporter Tammy Palmer, a 1998 SUNY Oswego alumna, will emcee.

Tickets are $25, available in advance only at all SUNY Oswego box offices, http://tickets.oswego.edu or by calling 312-2141.
