Rice Creek hosting 'Exploring Nature' youth programs

Rice Creek Field Station at SUNY Oswego is accepting registrations for two sessions of Exploring Nature, its weekly summer program for children ages 5 to 15.

This year’s sessions are July 6 to 10 and July 13 to 17. The program will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. those days.

The last day to register is June 10. Cost for either weeklong session is $140, or $125 for Rice Creek Associates. The late registration fee will be waived this year, in light of the economic situation many are facing at this time, organizers said.

Rice Creek Field Station includes the 26-acre Rice Pond surrounded by 400 acres of land, ranging from open fields to forests. The research building is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Trails are open every day from dawn to dusk.

The field station accommodates the general public and serves as a center for college courses and research. It is located on Thompson Road in the town of Oswego, a quarter-mile south of Route 104 and the main SUNY Oswego campus.
