Constellation joins two other long-time Presidential Sponsors, Sithe and the New York State Laborers’ Employers’ Cooperation and Education Trust Fund, in supporting the effort to raise funds for the Presidential Scholars program at the college.
“We are grateful to Constellation and all our loyal sponsors, whose support will help make an Oswego State education possible for some of the state’s best and brightest students,” said SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley.
“Constellation Energy recognizes that education is the foundation of both personal and economic growth. We are proud to support the Presidential Scholarship Program at Oswego State. Education results in many long-term community benefits—from the development of resourceful leaders to informed voters and knowledgeable consumers,” said Jim Spina, vice president at Constellation Energy’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station. “Constellation Energy and all of the employees at Nine Mile Point continue to be committed to our valuable community partners.”
The Presidential Scholars program is an initiative designed to attract academically accomplished students—ranking in the top 10 percent of their high school classes—to SUNY Oswego.
In the 2004-05 academic year, Oswego awarded 177 Presidential Scholarships of $4,400 per year for four years to students with a high-school grade average of 93 and an average SAT score of 1227. The program supported another 70 Deans’ Scholarship recipients, who receive $1,250 per year for four years.
Since the fall semester of 1997, the Fall Classic has provided over $1.15 million in scholarship money for more than 1,000 Presidential Scholarships.
