Chorus seeks local singers for 'Carmina Burana'

The Oswego Festival Chorus seeks singers to join them in the preparation and performance of Carl Orff’s dramatic oratorio “Carmina Burana” this fall at SUNY Oswego.

Rehearsals for the chorus will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in Room 41 of Tyler Hall and will run through the first full week of December. New members will be accepted up through Sept. 25.

Performances will take place Dec. 8 and 9 in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre as a featured part of the college’s Artswego series.

The large chorus will be accompanied by pianists Rob Auler and Rebecca Horning as well as the Percussion Ensemble from Onondaga Community College. Soloists include soprano Julianna Sabol, tenor Dan Williams and baritone Kent Bradshaw.

A dance company from New York City, nicholasleichterdance, will perform an innovative new hip-hop/modern choreography to the work.

There is a $10 registration fee as well as a refundable music deposit of $5 due at the first rehearsal. The registration fee covers the cost of publicity and the rehearsal accompanist. Singers can save $2 by registering one week before the first rehearsal.

Call the director of the chorus, SUNY Oswego Professor Julie Pretzat, at 312-2983 for more information.
