College part of partnership for new community bookmobile

Oswego’s Bookmobile makes a stop May 31—launch day for the bright vehicle acquired from Reynoldsville, Ohio—at SUNY Oswego, which is collaborating with the Oswego YMCA and the Oswego City School District to bring summer reading to students throughout the city in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Organizers with bookmobile. From left are Rameen Mohammadi, the college’s associate provost and a Bookmobile steering committee member; Joan Dain, the project’s leader, literacy coach and a teacher at Charles E. Riley Elementary School; and volunteer Randy Miles.

SUNY Oswego and Oswego High School students will help staff the vehicle, which will serve Oswego neighborhoods in July and August on a schedule to be announced. Dain said each summer patron—including parents—would be invited to take a book from among the 2,500 donated volumes on board. Selections include popular series like Bone, Clifford, Twilight and Harry Potter; graphic novels and comic books; and books in Spanish.
