Penfield Library employs approximately 35 student assistants during the fall and spring semesters. Student assistants work in all areas of the library, both public and non-public service areas, during all the hours that the library is open.

Student assistants are employed in the following library departments:

  • Check-Out / Reserves
  • Stacks Maintenance
  • Cataloging / Serials
  • Peer Reference Service
  • Interlibrary Loan
  • Special Collections

Employment opportunities are available for both work-study and non-work-study students. Most students work an average of 10 hours per week. Students working in public service areas often work nights and / or weekends.

How to apply

Student employment in the library is very competitive. Applicants are evaluated based upon the needs of the library, the compatibility of the applicant with those needs, the flexibility of the applicant's schedule, and grade point average. Previous library experience is not necessary.
