University Police received 6 reports of Apple Macbooks being stolen from Penfield Library within the last few weeks.  The owners had left the computers unattended for a short period of time. Multiple thefts took place in the early afternoon. A female may have witnessed one of the thefts.  Charges of Grand Larceny in the fourth degree a class E Felony are pending.

We would like to remind everyone to never leave your laptop unattended, even for a minute.
  • If you must sleep while you're studying in the library, sleep on the laptop.
  • Do not leave valuables in common areas or ask strangers to watch them for you.
  • Engrave your Drivers License ID number on the bottom of the laptop.
  • Use commercial location software, such as Apple's Find My iPhone or use tamper-resistant tags that can be applied to the laptop to identify it in case of theft.
We ask our community to help us keep our campus safe. To report suspicious behavior contact University Police at 315-312-5555 or use the Oswego Gaurdian app which also offers a text UPD option.
