Human-Computer Interaction observes which ways humans interact with computers and design technology that allows us to interact with computers. Our program is the first program within the SUNY system dedicated to preparing professionals for careers related to human-computer interaction, user experience design and user-centered research. Students of our program come from a variety of academic backgrounds and brings diversity to this already unique program. The program features a unique curriculum that prepares our students to guide the future of human and technology interactions.

What you will study: 

Our 33-credit interdisciplinary degree integrates concepts and methods from computer science, graphic design, and the social sciences. Drawing upon these concepts and methods, you will learn user-centered design approaches as they create information and communication technologies such as websites, mobile apps, computer games, and software design. You will be able to customize your education by making projects applicable to your desired career outcome.

All of my life I’ve been these two people. I am interested in science fiction and technology, and I’m also an artist and designer. HCI meant I could pursue all of those things.

Learning outcomes: 

Graduates will gain real world experience through projects that incorporate skills building, analyzing and improving human-computer interaction. Graduates of our program often receive funding through fellowships to work on large-scale projects with major businesses like Welch Allyn, MedTech, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Our program also ties with regional businesses provide opportunities for professional growth and exposure to the industry.
