History

Function
Johnson Hall was built in the late 1950s and opened in fall 1958. It was the first of four Lakeside dormitories built between 1956 and 1961. Johnson was the third residence hall built on campus, after Lonis and Moreland Halls were built in the Mackin Complex.

Namesake
Johnson Hall was named after Harold B. Johnson. Johnson was honored for his work as former chairman of the Oswego Board Visitors Group, which established the State Dormitory Authority, and served as the first vice chairman of the board. Johnson, who lived from 1880 to 1949, was also the editor and president of the Watertown Daily Times.
