SUNY Oswego is excited to offer our 2020 Summer Intensive English Program (SIEP). Our three and six week sessions are designed for students seeking to improve their academic English skills amongst other learners from all over the globe. Our program has a history of success and will help you develop the skills, fluency, and confidence you need to communicate effectively in English.

Weekend Trips
SUNY Oswego is conveniently located to many exciting and historical destinations in New York State. A highlight of our program is the travel that is built into your schedule.
- You will experience the bright lights, culture, and entertainment that New York City offers.
- Niagara Falls will thrill you with it's beauty and energy.
- The Thousand Islands will leave you breathless as you explore the St. Lawrence River and the summer playground of many of America's early industrialists.
Academics
Our SIEP Program is designed for:
- undergraduate,
- graduate students,
- exchange students,
- and working professionals
who want to develop and improve their English language skills.
Each class will meet for four hours each weekday and coursework will focus on:
- listening,
- speaking,
- pronunciation,
- reading,
- grammar
- and writing.
At the start of the program, students will be given an institutional TOEFL oral and written exam to determine proficiency levels. Based upon test results, students will be placed in
- beginner,
- intermediate,
- or advanced level classes
Throughout the program students will be given daily homework assignments, quizzes and finals to assess progress and proficiency.
- Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will be awarded college credit and a certificate of completion.
- Students may participate in optional tutoring sessions scheduled in the afternoons as well as a conversation hour in the evening.
- Students are encouraged to participate as a campus and community member to further enhance learning opportunities
What Do Students Say About Our Program?
More Information
Students will stay in a campus residence hall. The residence hall has a game room, coin operated laundry and vending machines. Each room is designed for two students and is furnished with beds, mattresses, pillows, bedsheets, pillowcases, towels, hand towels, washcloths, bureaus, study desks, chairs, floor lamps, closets, and a room refrigerator to share.
Students will be served their meals in the campus dining hall.
Students are expected to fly into the Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York. The airport is 50 minutes away from the campus. Flight costs are not included in the program fee. SUNY Oswego will provide transportation to and from the airport on a reserved bus on the following specified dates and times. Please plan your incoming and outgoing flights accordingly.
Arrival
- Flights arriving on June 17, 2020 the bus will depart from Syracuse airport at 3 pm
- Flights arriving on July 8, 2020 the bus will depart from Syracuse airport at 4 pm
Departure
- The bus will depart from SUNY Oswego on August 1, 2020 at 6:00 am.
Application & Registration
This non-refundable application fee is not an additional cost, it will be applied toward the total program cost. The application deadline for this year's program is May 1, 2020. Make sure you print out a copy of your confirmation page.
In order to confirm your registration, SUNY Oswego must receive the Release & Indemnification Form as soon as possible. The deadline is May 1, 2020.

COMPLETE THE INSURANCE, PHOTO RELEASE, ROOMMATE SELECTION & DIETARY RESTRICTIONS FORM
The SUNY Oswego Registrar's office will email you instructions for setting up a Laker ID. You will need this ID to upload your immunization records and complete your health history and meningitis fact sheet form.
You can download & complete our Immunization Form. Your nurse at school or doctor can fill it out. You can also use the standard immunization letter your school has. It has to be in English and it has to cover all shots required in our form. The Immunization Form is uploaded in Step 6.
You will be redirected to Health Services at SUNY Oswego. You will need your Laker ID to login. Locate the upload tab to submit your immunization record. Locate the forms tab to complete the Health History form. We must be in receipt of the Health History Form and Immunization record by May 1, 2020.
Pay the balance of your program cost no later than Friday May 1, 2020. It can be paid one of two ways: Pay online by using a credit card or debit card. Pay by check or money order (payable to SUNY Oswego mailed to below address).
