Carnival, or Carnevale, has been celebrated for centuries throughout Italy. The name is said to derive from the words carne vale -- "farewell to meat" -- which is the reason for the celebration: an opportunity to indulge in such treats before the start of Lent. The event is casual but dressing up is highly recommended. Includes free food, costume contest, maskmaking and a showing of "Pane e Tulipani" starting at 5:30 p.m. Hosted by the Italian American Heritage Club. Free; parking for those without a campus parking sticker is $1 -- see
