The School of Education at SUNY Oswego has a proud history of high-quality programs for teachers and school professionals. In 1861, Edward Austin Sheldon founded what would become SUNY Oswego as the first urban teacher training program in the United States. Today, our mission statement and conceptual framework express how we carry on Sheldon's concern for social justice and authentic learning for diverse students in schools by weaving strands of knowledge, practice, reflection, and collaboration & leadership.

The School of Education is accredited by NCATE, the standard of excellence in teacher preparation. In addition to our high-quality programs with many kinds of field placements, there are a variety of exciting student groups & activities from which to choose. Our faculty are actively involved in professional development schools and in a variety of innovative initiatives & projects.
