Key Items New Students Need to Know Before Arriving on Campus

ACTIVATE YOUR LAKER NETID

This is the username and password that will allow you to access many of the services CTS provides including ResNet (residential network), wireless computing, online classes, the computer labs, and more. Go to this page in order to activate your account.

 

UPDATE YOUR COMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEM (OS) AND ANTI-VIRUS

Install the latest operating system security updates for your computer before you arrive to campus. Also make sure your anti virus is updated as well (Microsoft Windows updatesApple updates).

 

INSTALL SOPHOS ANTI-VIRUS

Install Sophos, the university-provided anti-virus program available to all faculty, staff and students at no charge. Before installing Sophos, first uninstall any antivirus software you currently have. You can then download and install Sophos from our software downloads page.

 

DISCOVER LAKERAPPS, POWERED BY GOOGLE

Access your Google email, calendar and documents by logging into LakerApps.  Remember that email is an official form of campus communication, so be sure to check your SUNY Oswego email regularly.

 

USE MYOSWEGO TO TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS

You can register for classes, pay your bill, check financial aid, and set up your emergency contact information. Login using your Laker NetID and password.

 

CAMPUS WIRELESS NETWORK

Familiarize yourself with the campus wireless system.  Check out or print the instructions for a one-time configuration of your device. You may also review our wireless map for many spaces where wireless computing is available.

 

COMPUTER LABS

Become familiar with the general access computer labs available throughout the campus.

 

DIGITAL COPYRIGHT LAW

Educate yourself about digital copyright law, especially if you download apps, movies or music at home. You may be violating the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA).

CABLE TELEVISION SETUP

Digital cable television service is included in your room rate. Since we've switched to a digital system, it does require newer televisions that have QAM tuners. You can find more information on our cable television site.
