Craig's role as an embedded counselor means that he works primarily in different residence halls on campus to provide mental health counseling and consultation services to professional and paraprofessional residence life staff. In addition, Craig administers solution focused individual counseling, conducts group-counseling sessions, and Let's Talk consultation counseling (see hours above). 

Craig Gilkey earned his BA in Human Development with a minor in Athletic Coaching at SUNY Oswego in 2010. Graduating with an MS in Mental Health Counseling in 2014, Craig is working under a limited permit to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York. Craig worked in Residential Life and Housing for four years as a Residence Hall Director and as a Graduate Resident Mentor in the Hart Hall Global Living and Learning Center while interning and then working part-time at the Counseling Services Center at SUNY Oswego.

He is an Adjunct Professor in the Human Development Department at SUNY Oswego teaching introductory courses in life-span development and gerontology. Craig facilitates Circle of Security (COS) parenting groups in the Oswego County area and high and low ropes courses with TEAM Adventure out of Syracuse, New York. Craig is passionate about collaborating with students in effort to achieve optimal functioning in their personal, academic, social and spiritual endeavors. He utilizes an eclectic mix of methods, tailoring each treatment approach to the individual client's strengths and counseling goals. Some of these methods include TEAM therapy and the Trauma Resiliency Model. Craig's research interests include positive psychology, attachment theory, mindfulness, resiliency, counseling technique, life-span development, nerolinguistic programming, gerotranscendence, and trauma. One of Craig's favorite quotes is "You can't stop the waves but you can learn to surf" by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
