Communication Studies

Communication Studies at Oswego explores the multiple ways that humans interact and exchange ideas and beliefs. We offer students many opportunities to explore how we communicate interpersonally, in small groups and within society using the mass media and new media technologies. Our programs in Broadcasting and Mass Communication, Communication and Social Interaction, Journalism and Public Relations are designed to give students opportunities to work with outstanding faculty in a collaborative learning environment. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Princeton Review list our programs among the best in the United States.

Facilities

The media landscape in Comm Studies is particularly rich. We operate two digital television studios in Lanigan Hall along with high-definition video editing suites, a recording studio and multiple radio labs. The department also sponsors a fullyequipped student radio station, WNYO-FM and WTOP-TV, which includes our new Al Roker television studios. Our facilities are also linked to the Central New York community via Time-Warner Cable System and we are CNN News Source affiliates. The Oswegonian, our student newspaper, has won numerous awards.
