Our Teachers

Our curriculum planning is coordinated by certified teachers with master's degrees in early childhood education. We seek qualified classroom teachers and assistants who have experience and training and who exhibit warmth, caring, patience, and skill in working with young children. Staff receive ongoing training throughout the year in areas such as child development, health, safety and security procedures, First Aid, and curriculum development.

New York State requires all staff to be fingerprinted, have criminal and child abuse record checks, and provide references.

Classroom environments

Our toddler and preschool classrooms are bright, spacious and cheerful, with well-equipped interest areas and learning centers. Toys and materials are rotated throughout the year based on weekly themes, the seasons, and the interests of the children and teachers. When the children are learning about firefighters, we set up a fire station and paint a large cardboard box for a fire truck. Our "All About Me" unit might involve setting up a baby nursery in our dramatic play area.

Our daily schedules carefully balance active and quiet play, and child- and teacher-directed activities. Children participate in structured activities such as music time, circle time, and story time as well as unstructured activities such as building with blocks or playing at the sand and water tables. Additionally, walks or outdoor play are included daily.

Meals

The center participates in the New York State Health Department's Child Care Feeding Program. Children are served CACFP-approved breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.
