A Career Services Industry Expert Conducts a Class Presentation

Description of Career Services presentations

General Overview
We can provide an overview of Career Services programs, services, tools, and resources available to students and alumni.  We’ll show you how you can:

  • discover your interests, values, and strengths and how those relate to your future;
  • explore career fields and academic programs to determine the best fit for you;
  • set solid plans & strategies in place to compete for the best post-graduation opportunities

Discovering Who I Am
Career Services offers a variety of assessment tools that help students identify their strengths, skills, values, abilities, and interests. Workshops can be delivered after students complete the assessments on Focus2. We can process their results and identify ways to incorporate the information into their academic plan. The other option for this presentation is an overview of the all the self-assessments available on campus through 1:1 Career Coaching meetings (StrengthsQuestTM, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory®).

Exploring Self, Majors and Careers
College is a time for exploring, growing and learning. Deciding on a career path and academic program can be a challenging decision. This workshop will help students learn about strategies, resources and services available to research and explore and discover the life they are meant to live.

Industry Experts
We are happy to reach out to our employer partners and work with them to develop a presentation based on real-world experience.  We have relationships with employers in virtually every career field, and they are happy to come to your class to speak with students about life in their field, information about their organization, hiring trends, advantages/challenges of their career field, typical work responsibilities, and much more!

Marketing Yourself
Résumé & Cover Letter Writing - this workshop will cover how to create/perfect a résumé. We'll cover everything from what a résumé should contain to perfecting statements and directing a résumé to the position that you want – including the high-tech tools we use to create résumé magic. This workshop can also include individual résumé critiques.

Interviewing Skills
This workshop will provide an overview of what students need to know to succeed in an interview! Topics include how to match your skills and experiences to the organization’s needs, preparing for the tough questions, making the best first impression and the critical follow-up.

Digital Dirt Squad
Did you know that over 75% of employers are searching for you on social media? We have experts ready to present on the importance of your online reputation and how to manage it effectively.  It is not enough to simply not have BAD pictures out there.  We'll show your students how employers will search for them online, and how they can leverage the power of social media to HELP them land that job or internship.

High-Demand Skills
Nationally, employers continue to rate students low in terms of workforce readiness and skill development.  We can help your students understand what employers are seeking in general, and specifically within a certain major or career field.  We can also help your students conduct an analysis of their skills, determine where the gaps are, and develop strategies to get what the skills and experience they need to be competitive.

LinkedIn Photo Booth
Need a professional photo for your website or LinkedIn profile? Our staff will set up a photo booth and take professional headshots.

Job Search Strategies That Work
This workshop will review the many things students can do to ensure they are successful in the job search process - both a high-tech and a high touch approach, with a focus on networking and conducting a gap analysis between employer expectations and student skills/experience.

Graduate School: Explore the Process
Perhaps you need another degree to be competitive, or you just love learning!  We can help you figure out if you really need to attend graduate school, discuss the process and timeline, and help you research the best programs out there!
