BFA degree

For talented students seeking a demanding program with a high degree of focus, the BFA offers in-depth study of either studio art (fine art or illustration) or graphic design. The BFA is limited to select students chosen through a separate application process. Students seeking admission into our BFA programs need to demonstrate an aptitude for hard work evidenced by a strong well-presented portfolio, exemplary academic performance and solid writing skills.

Track I - Fine Arts

Degree Highlights
Offers a variety of courses in Ceramics, Drawing, Design, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.

·Studies include specific attention to the latest developments in Art Theory, Criticism and Art History.
·Students advance from foundation studies to specialize in a medium of their choice.     
·Students use the numerous work-study, assistantship or study abroad programs to gain valuable practical experience.
·Graduates of the program have been accepted in well-known MFA programs. Students often go on to become k-12 teachers, college professors, museum professionals, gallery workers, and self-employed artists.

Track II - Illustration

Degree Highlights
Offers a variety of courses in 2D, 3D, and animated traditional and digital illustration forms. Elective study allows for study across the the department.

• Studies allow students to develop techniques and approaches through a wide range of illustration projects designed to promote exploration across the field.
• Students move into their upper-level studies, they are encouraged to build a body of work specific to their point-of-view as an illustrator.
• Students are also encouraged to study in such applied forms as graphic or interactive design where they can study page layout, motion graphics, multimedia and other areas that complement their illustration skill sets.
