Searching for college is challenging. Searching for college during the time of coronavirus is, well, even more so. We’ve prepared a general road map for what you, as a high school senior, should do in the year to come.
Summer    Explore & Visit

Explore
Spend time reading and reviewing (and responding to!) those emails and mailings you’ve received from SUNY Oswego and other institutions you are considering. Your response is what tells us that you are interested.
You can also build your own custom viewbook!
SUNY Oswego is SAT and ACT test-optional for students applying for the Spring and Fall 2021, and Spring 2022 semesters, meaning that you do not have to take the SAT or ACT exam in order to be admitted. Prospective students who would like to take the test with the intention of including their scores as part of their application are welcome to do so. For those who choose to submit scores, Oswego superscores the best of these test results.

Summer Visit Options
Virtual visit options are open for registration. Connecting more than once is not only common, it is encouraged. Sit back and listen or interact with presenters. Experience campus at different times, in different seasons, and really get a sense of Oswego through a variety of current student, faculty and leadership perspectives.
Info Programs These live web events offer a great overview of life as a student at Oswego.
Spotlight Sessions focus an online discussion on different topics each week.
Ask Me Anything Theses online Q&A chat sessions are delivered by current students and designed for prospective students.
Virtual Events Archive Watch an on-demand video in our library of recorded sessions.
Make sure we have your most up-to-date info, such as mailing address, email, phone, parent/family info, and texting preferences. We’ll keep you in the loop with reminders, interesting facts and need-to-know information such as COVID-19 updates.
Fall    Apply, Complete the FAFSA & Visit

Apply
When is the best time to apply? The earlier, the better. We encourage applying as early as possible in order for you to receive the fullest possible consideration (and by that, we mean not only for acceptance but for scholarships, too). If you are planning on enrolling in the fall, apply for Early Action by November 15, 2020.
Early Action is a non-binding application/notification program that can enable an earlier admissions decision. Submit your completed application by November 15, 2020, and we will send you a decision by December 15, 2020. And the earlier you have a decision on admissions, the sooner you can start making financial plans and get back to enjoying your senior year.
SUNY Oswego accepts either the Common App or the SUNY Application. Both are available starting August 1, 2020, and both require a $50 non-refundable application fee.
Virtual Visit Options
Visit opportunities will update throughout the year, so watch our visit page for the latest opportunities.

FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form that becomes available for seniors (who are headed to college in fall 2021) on October 1, 2020. You must complete the FAFSA in order to be eligible for Financial Aid, including PELL, the Federal grant for eligible students. As a result of completing the FAFSA, NYS students are also linked to the NYS TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) application. PELL and TAP are both grant programs, in other words, money that does not need to be paid back.
Winter    Apply for Scholarship & Visit

A Winter Wonderland
We will continue to assess our campus visit options as the year progresses, but we look forward to when you will be able to see our winter wonderland in person, and experience Laker hockey in full force! Nevertheless, this is a great time to connect with an Oswego student from your potential major and learn about becoming part of the Laker family.
You may continue to explore current and future virtual visit options such as our virtual tour.
Because SUNY Oswego has rolling admissions, you can still apply during the winter. But ideally you’ll be thinking about financial aid and scholarships at this point. 89% of our students receive some form of financial aid, plus our Financial Aid team is ready to help you through the process.
When you apply, you are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships. No separate application is necessary. However, additional scholarship opportunities are available and may require a separate application for eligibility.
Spring    Visit & Decide

Visit and Decide
Spring is the final stretch for college visits and exploration. It’s your chance to make sure you have that “this is the place” feeling before you choose to commit. Oswego hosts spring visit events which are typically announced in February.
After you decide to enroll at Oswego, you’ll need to commit to Oswego by submitting your $100 admissions deposit. The Deadline is May 1, 2021.
