STATISTICAL SUMMARY:

 

The flora of Rice Creek Field Station as presented here includes 725 plant species, of which 601 have at one time been found growing in the wild without cultivation. Some area natives have disappeared in the course of successional change. Some wild-growing plants are present only because they were purposely introduced. This includes, among others, the Glade Fern (Diplazium pycnocarpon) and all conifers except Common Juniper (Juniperus communis), Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus), and Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)

Of the wild-growing vascular plant species, 359 are considered to be native to New York State, an additional 8 are native to North America and introduced into New York State, and 191 are introduced from other parts of the world.
