Robert Thole kicking soccer ball

Then: Men's soccer player Robert Thole was Oswego's first-ever All-American when he achieved the honor in 1961. Teammate Ed Zorn earned All-American status the following year, and the Laker athletic program was off and running in national recognition. In all, 80 student-athletes earned All-American honors across a spectrum of sports, bespeaking the pursuit of excellence in competition as well as in classrooms. Swimmer Anne Sarkisian holds the school record with 11 All-American nods alone, which included placing second in the 100 butterfly in the NCAA national championships in 2003. Chad Burridge skies for a dunk

Now: Basketball standout Chad Burridge, one of three current Laker All-Americans, takes to the skies in a recent game for a breakaway slam dunk. The other two All-Americans on Laker rosters this season are men's hockey forward Ian Boots and goalie Paul Beckwith (albeit out with injury). With the success of many Laker student-athletes, that number may yet grow this year. (Image courtesy of Chuck Perkins Photography)
