Solid State on the Tyler Hall stairs

Then: This image of the Solid State jazz ensemble on the steps of Tyler Hall, from a 1960s Ontarian yearbook, shows mod fashion of the era in full bloom. Stretching back to the institution's early years, when it was the Oswego Primary Teachers' Training School and then the Oswego Normal School, more formal attire appeared fairly standard within classrooms, according to written accounts and photographs of the times. By the year of this photo, fashions had begun to relax a bit -- a trend accelerated by the counterculture movement of the late 1960s/early 1970s. (Photo researcher: Brianna Colombo)

Blackfriars re-create group pose on Tyler Hall stairs

Now: The Blackfriars student theatre organization re-creates the pose in current, more casual fashion. The theatre department will explore what college students wore through the ages during "A Fashionable High Tea" at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom. The event in honor of the college's sesquicentennial will include a fashion show, video montage, discussion, tea and sweets. For more information, visit the event website.
