Virtual Commencement Ceremony

Saturday, December 12, 2020, 10 am

On this special day, we will hold five separate ceremonies: four to honor our undergraduates who will earn their baccalaureate degrees from the School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; School of Education; or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and a separate ceremony for our students earning their graduate certificates, master’s degrees, and certificates of advanced study.

Commencement Details

Why is the December 2020 Commencement Ceremony virtual?

Due to national social distancing restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are holding a virtual ceremony.

Will I receive individual recognition during the ceremony?

Students will be individually recognized during their School or College's ceremony. More details to come!

Will there be a program with my name, hometown and degree?

Yes, a PDF print program will be available on this webpage at a later date.

Double Major and Five-year Program Listing
Undergraduate students who have double majors will only receive one degree. These students are only listed once in the program.

The only exceptions to the above are those in the combined Bachelor’s/Master’s five-year programs, they receive undergraduate and graduate degrees at the same time. These students are listed once in the undergraduate section, and once in the graduate section.

I’m a double major from different schools, which ceremony will I be represented in?

The ceremony students are associated with is your first major, so Education majors, for example, have Education as their first major and are represented only in the School of Education ceremony.

Double majors do not receive two diplomas. Diplomas codify the conferral of a degree (Baccalaureate, Masters, etc.), not completion of major requirements. Since SUNY Oswego allows for the pursuit and conferral of one degree at a time, it follows that only one diploma is issued at a time.  Both majors (and any minors), are all listed on your transcript.

Will I still receive a diploma?

Yes, diplomas are typically mailed 6-8 weeks after Commencement.

Why didn't I get my diploma?

On the Registration tab in myOswego, click View Holds to see if you have any holds preventing transcripts (Hold Information also shows on your Student Profile). If there are no holds and it's been 8 or more weeks since Commencement, email the Registrar’s Office, registra@oswego.edu.

How and when do I apply to graduate?

All students, undergraduate and graduate, must apply to graduate in order to receive their degree. The online deadline to apply for December graduation has passed - if you haven’t yet applied for December 2020 graduation and are eligible, please contact the Registrar’s Office at registra@oswego.edu. If you are eligible, the sooner you apply, you may still be included in the commencement ceremony program.
