Nils Nilsson received a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford 
University 
in 1958. Since then, he has greatly influenced the field of computer 
science and 
currently works as a professor of engineering in the department of 
computer 
science at Stanford University.

Thoughout his career, Nilsson published five text books on AI while 
working on 
statistical and neural network approaches to pattern recignition. He also 
directed work on a integrated mobile robot called SHAKEY and developed the 
PROSPECTOR export system.
