- Objective of Course: To learn the
application of meteorology to man's immediate
environment i.e., near the earth's surface.
- Text:
Introduction to Micrometeorology by Ayra
Texts on Reserve:
- Physical Climatology by Sellers
- The Climate Near the Ground by Geiger
Attendance: Zero non-excused absences will
add 2 points to final grade and one will add 1
point. One point will be subtracted from final grade for each
non-excused absence over 2.
Absences will be excused by written note from a doctor or the
student advisement center. If
you must leave class early, you must get permission. There will
be no class Tue Sep 14 (a
Monday). It will be reassigned to an evening for a guest speaker.
Grades: [Plus-minus grading system will not
be used.]
- Exam #1 Wednesday October 16, 1996 20%
- Exam #2 Wednesday November 20, 1996 20%
- Final Exam (comprehensive) Tue Dec 17, 10:30
- 12:30 25%
- Homework 20%
- Experiment and Report (due December 13) 15%
Exams: Makeups require same type of note as
excused absences. If makeups are not
arranged before the next class, a harder discussion question type
of exam may be substituted.
Experiment and Report: One of the best ways
to learn a science is through firsthand
experience. Therefore, you will be expected to design and perform
(individually or in groups
of 2 or 3) a simple micrometeorological experiment. Possible
experiments and available
instruments will be discussed in class. The experiment idea must
be approved by Prof.
Stamm by 13 September. Let Prof. Stamm know early what equipment
you will need and
when you will need it, in order to avoid conflicts. A brief
report to the class and a 2 - 3 page
paper (plus data) stating goal, procedure, and results will be
required. Please include a
complete data set. The paper will be due 13 December. 10 points
off for each day late.
