Subject: summer school needs help!

Dad, pass this on to anyone who may want to help. The program will be similar to last year. I think my letter last year described it well.

love, Abby

Current Peace Corps Education Volunteers based in Malawi are trying to sustain a secondary school project. Funding has suddenly fallen through a month before the program is due to start. We write you to ask if your organization can provide any financial assistance. Peace Corps Summer School is a two-week project that was conceived two years ago to help address concerns over the most motivated students in Community Day Secondary Schools being under-served by an education system that struggles with an incredible volume of pupils and a scarcity of qualified instructors. This year, 90 students and 30 Malawian teachers have been invited from all over the country to participate in activities including core educational subjects as well as HIV/AIDS and evironmental awareness, career development, leadership, and computer skills workshops. Past participants have returned to their schools not only with new skills related to their most difficult subjects, but also with the ability to transfer their new skills. This year^Òs program has a budget of $10,000. Two days ago, we lost all of it and are back to square one with four weeks to go before the program is scheduled to begin. We are looking to piece the money together from as many sources as necessary. Any amount you could donate would be greatly appreciated.

Any feedback would be welcome. Please contact Hillary Dunlevy at had01@alum.dartmouth.org or Sara Johnson at sunnysara82@hotmail.com.

Sincerely,
