Here are the instructions for making a toolbar button for symbols on Microsoft Word:

 

1)     Open Microsoft Word 

2)     Click on the View Menu

3)     Select Toolbars

4)     Click Customize at the bottom

5)     Select Toolbars Tab Menu

6)     Click the “New...” button

7)     Give the Toolbar a desired name and Click “OK”

8)     Select Commands Tab

9)     Under Categories Select “Insert”

10)              Under Commands(to the right of Categories) Scroll to “Symbol...”

11)              A small Toolbar Box popped up when you did step 5

12)              Click and Drag the “Symbol...” option into the Toolbar Box

13)              Click and Drag the “Symbol...” option from the Toolbar Box onto the Toolbar Menu at        the top of Microsoft Word

14)              You can now close the small Toolbar Box and if you click on the View menu and select toolbars again, you will notice that the new toolbar that you created is now listed with all the other toolbars and you can view it or hide it whenever you want.
