With the continuing development and improvement of wind power, the future of the energy source looks promising. While it may have its limits due to suitable sites, intermittency, and dependence on another fuel for support, wind power has grown in leaps and bounds. The available sites on land are being pursued, but the next step is moving the farms out to sea, further decreasing their impact. Such plants could support even larger blades, and thereby capture greater energy, as well as avoiding the aesthetics complaints of nearby property owners. There are some concerns with this new location, such as storms, shipping, and maintenance. However as with their counterparts, the new sea wind farms will find ways to address these issues (Enger 195). This source of energy may not be able to provide the entire solution to the world’s energy needs, but without creating emissions, having a limited impact upon wildlife when properly sited, and not requiring additional fuel, wind power promises to be a very sustainable source of energy.
