According to the U.S. Department of Energy, approximately 90% of the world's energy use comes from fossil fuels: oil, natural gas and coal (Walisiewicz 8). The current reliance upon fossil fuels is a complicated issue today since these resources are limited and non-renewable; once they are depleted, they cannot be replenished. Alternative energy in the form of wind motion can be converted to mechanical energy for driving pumps, mills, and electric power generators. In order to prevent the supplies of fossil fuels from becoming completely exhausted, the American people should institute an aggressive program to adopt wind turbines. Along with other renewable energy sources, wind energy will allow us to reduce our dependency upon foreign oil, cut down on the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and even create new specialized jobs.
