Sarfraz A. Mian is Professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business, State University of New York - Oswego, NY. Professor Mian has previously taught at University of Maryland, and was a visiting professor at University of Osnabrueck, Germany and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan. He has delivered invited lectures at several prominent universities in Germany, Canada, Mexico and Pakistan.

He earned his BS & MS Engineering from Punjab University, MS Management Sciences from Northwestern University, MBA & PhD Business Administration from the George Washington University.

He has published numerous articles in professional journals including: Journal of Business Venturing, Research Policy, Journal of High Technology Management Research, Technovation, Int. J. Technological Intelligence and Planning, Int. J. Business and Globalization, and Project Management Journal. He was the guest editor for Int. J. of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management (2007-09). He regularly reviews for JBV, JSBM, Research Policy, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Knowledge, Technology & Policy journal; and Academy of Management, ICSB, PICMET conferences. He is the author of several book chapters and a book titled: Building Knowledge Regions in North America: Emerging Technology Innovation Poles, Edward Elgar (2006). His new (forthcoming) book is on the subject of global experience in regional entrepreneurship policy, to be published by Edward Elgar.

Dr. Mian has been a speaker on the subjects of technology business incubation, new venture creation and related entrepreneurship policy aspects, making over one hundred national and international conference and invited presentations in the past decade. His scholarly work was recognized by the University President’s Award for Research and Scholarly Activity (1997). Professor Mian is the co-founder and US Coordinator of the North American Innovation Research Network (NAIRnet.com). The program has received two NAFTA research grants: El Collegio de Mexico ($N 240,000), Government of Canada (Can$ 15,000). He is also the Principal Investigator of a national team in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) program.

Professor Mian served as Chair for the Institute for Operations Research & Management Sciences (INFORMS) Technology Management Section from 2002 through 2004, and as Executive Committee Member and Newsletter Editor of the Academy of Management Technology and Innovation Management Division from 2000 through 2005. Prior to his current academic position, he had worked in industry and government for 15 years as senior engineer, technical manager, and business development consultant. The organizations served include: IBM; Policy Research Center of the Coalition of North East Governors, Washington, DC; U.S. Department of Agriculture; U.S. Department of Energy; Morbin Oil Corp; New York State (Oswego County); the World Bank; the Organization for Economic Cooperation for Development (OECD), Paris; National Science & Technology Council (CONACYT), Mexico; National Software Export Board and Punjab University, Pakistan; Toronto Sun Corporation and Ottawa-Carleton Research Institute, Canada.
