Sarfraz Mian is Professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, Chair Marketing & Management Department in the School of Business, State University of New York, Oswego, NY. Prior to this, he has taught at University of Maryland and was visiting professor at universities in Europe and South Asia. He earned his MBA and PhD in business administration from the George Washington University and an MS in management science from Northwestern University.
Dr. Mian served as Chair, INFORMS Technology Management (2002-04) and an officer of the Academy of Management TIM Division (2000-05). He is the co-founder and US Coordinator of North American Innovation Research Network (NAIRNet) and is the Head (PI) of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, Pakistan.
His scholarly work comprises of more than 50 published articles and over 100 conference presentations. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Small Business Management, and has served as guest editor for Technovation, Small Business Economics, Journal of Technology Transfer, and Int'l J. Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management; Published two books - 'Building Knowledge Regions in North America: Emerging Technology Innovation Poles' and 'Science & Technology Based Regional Entrepreneurship: Global Experience in Policy and Program Development' (both Edward Elgar). Mian's Journal of Business Venturing, Research Policy articles on university business incubation are among the most cited. He has delivered several keynote and invited addresses on the subject of technology business incubation and university's role in regional entrepreneurship in the US and several international locations.
During his more than 25 years of academic experience he has frequently consulted with international bodies, governments, and industry.
