Students have to read, write and do the oral presentation in the Orchestra class as it is stated in New State Standards for Music Education. This WebQuest gives students the opportunity to discover the literacy sources that music is based on. Students will be able to make connection between Literature and Music. Students will have to use different ways to become successful and accomplish their tasks. They will have to watch the video of the ballet, read the original book the libretto of the ballet is based on, read the paragraph from a professional music book, do the research on Internet, do the presentation on the topic chosen, etc. Everything together will introduce students to similarities and differences between ballet "The Nutcracker" by P I. Tchaikovsky and the original story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" by E.T.A. Hoffmann, enhance students critical-thinking skills, help them to develop an ability to make decisions, give them an opportunity to work independently as well as in small learning-cooperative groups. You can see the Concept Map of this WebQuest. This WebQuest was designed and developed by High School Orchestra director. In my own experience this WebQuest is a great opportunity for High School Orchestra students to work independently to find out more about music they play everyday in Orchestra class. |
