SUPERVISOR EXPECTATIONS

I.	Completion of weekly objectives

2.	Room Management - keeping room neat & orderly
 	*  desks, seats
 	*  supplies & tools
	*  equipment
	*  displays
           Supplies on hand / well stocked
           Lesson materials prepared / organized	
        *  maintain in class displays and/or other building displays

3.      Classroom management
        *  attendance records for each class
        *  homeroom procedure
        *  record keeping
	*  knowledge of school
	   procedures,firedrills,discipline, safety, etc.

4.           Establish notebook
                      *  student grade sheets, class lists, etc.
                      *  lesson plans
	              *  grading policy and assessment plan to share with 
			 students
                      *  daily log - successes, frustrations, etc.
                      *  ideas - addresses, free materials, future lesson
			 sparks, etc.
                      *  comments / records regarding students such as
			 medical problems, learning limitations, or any anecdotal records of student behavior.
 
5.      Lesson Plans:
        Text with supporting materials, tools, slides,reproductions, etc. utilizing behavioral 
	objectives and assessment for day. Unit plans with goals, 
	objectives or other evidence of long term planning

6.      Criteria for teaching
    	Establish a list of criteria for classroom management (rules,
	regulations, procedures etc.)
        Re-evaluate at mid term; modify and make changes as needed,
	use eval. check list.
            
        Determine teaching techniques and strategies that are appropriate
	and applicable to each group.
  
7.	Choose a student to analyze and study.  Keep an ongoing log of
	their progress.  Shadow that student (with their and the Principals permission) for
	one school day.

8.	Meet and interview other school personnel and learn what roles
	they play in the educational setting.  Such as librarian, counselor, vice
	principal, union rep., special ed  teachers, aids, etc.

9.  	Attend faculty meetings.
     	Attend extra-curricular events, sporting, club meetings, dances,
	parent nights, etc.

10.  	Find out about your professional organization.  Such as the New
	York State Art Teachers Association.   Find out how to belong (there are student
	rates) and if there is a local group active in the area.  Try to attend a regional
	meeting as a guest of your cooperating teacher or another teacher on faculty where you
	are student teaching.

11.	Dress, talk and act professionally at all times!	

12.	Mail your weekly schedule to supervisor's home, a week in advance.
	Be sure to indicate where you can be found during free periods,
	please indicate conference days, school holidays, assemblies and early dismissal dates.

13.	Be sure you have cooperating teacher's home phone number in case
	of problems.  Be sure that they have your home phone and your college supervisor's
	home and work phone.

14,  	Gather data and evidence for your professional teaching portfolio.
	Show coop. teacher and college supervisor the results for feedback.

15.	Phone college supervisor at home to report any absences, the earlier
	the better.  If supervisor is not home, phone college and leave message.  Follow
	school procedure to report absences and call your coop. teacher at home as
	well.

For MAT-Art Education Majors only #16:

16.	Identify your research topic within the first two weeks of the
	semester.  Write up a proposal of just how you wish to conduct the research and how you
	will collect data to analyze.  Discuss this with cooperating teacher for additional
	input and ultimate approval.  Submit to supervisor for additional approval and
	feedback.  (You'll probably want to make an appointment to accomplish this task.)

	The final report will be a written document including the
	following chapters:
	1)	Identification of the problem with rationale of pursuit.
	2)	Review of literature, to ascertain what is already known
		about this topic in the field.  May use books, documents, and professional
		journals.
	3)	Description of the study, how you will proceed to
		actualize your plan and 	
		collect information to analyze.
	4)	Report of findings
	5)	Overview of project with recommendations for further
 		studies.

Please use APA style when writing this document.  A complete bibliography
should be at the very end of the document.  (See handouts in library to reference as to
form and style.)  Length of the document will be minimally 25 pages.

		compare with techniques used in cooperating teacher's

		discuss observations with cooperating teacher
	8.  set up daily conference time with cooperating teacher
	9.  know the names of the professional staff with whom you will be
	    working
	l0. identify which class you will teach first, develop potential
	    lesson plans for discussion
	11. inventory available materials for your use with classes
	12. discuss proposed  grading and assessment plans with
	    cooperating teacher

WEEK 2
	l.  assume teaching responsibility for one class
	2.  learn the names of the remaining classes
	3.  identify which class you will add next week
	4.  discuss potential unit plans with cooperating teacher
	5.  identify and discuss research topic with cooperating teacher.
	6.  set up appt. to discuss research topic with college supervisor
	7.  set up and establish your grade book

WEEK 3
	l.  assume teaching responsibility for two classes
	2.  identify which class you will add next and when
	3.  identify display areas available for your use within classroom
	    and outside.
	4.  continue to plan for additional classes to teach as
            cooperating teacher permits
	5.  continue to observe other teachers whenever possible with
            their permission
	6.  determine if there are extracurricular activities where you
            might assist
