Procedures for Art Student Teaching Interview Make an appointment to discuss student teaching with Dr. Kibbey by mid-semester the semester before you plan to student teach. Pre-requisites to student teaching are: All required courses for the program have been or are in the process of being completed, especially SED 523, the Art Ed Methods course. The exception to this rule is that one course could be taken during the summer after a spring student teaching assignment. All required courses have been completed successfully. For current coursework the student must request and provide written evidence of successful progress to Dr. Kibbey. Any incomplete grade will cancel the student teaching placement. All students must interview with potential cooperating art teachers to receive a placement at a High School or Jr-Sr. High School. Dr. Kibbey must sanction all interviews prior to occurrence. After the required Student Teaching Appt. with Dr. Kibbey, she will provide you with names of potential cooperating art teachers. You will then be authorized to contact them and set up an appointment and observation. Your responsibilities include: Asking the art teacher to clear the school visit with their Principal. Checking in with the school office to reporting your arrival. Dressing professionally. Bringing copies of the following documents: 1. Resume with home phone no. and mailing address. If you do not have a resume, you may substitute a l page biography with phone and address. This resume or biography must be left with the teacher. 2. A professional portfolio that minimally includes: 3. A copy of your resume. 4. A statement of your philosophy of education 5. A Listing of all art and education courses that you have taken to date. (It is helpful if you include the brief catalogue description as well. Both Undergraduate and Graduate courses should be included. 6. At least 10 slides or photographs of your artwork 7. A sample art lesson plan or a unit of instruction if you have one completed. 8. Your proposal for the action research project. This should be a topic of discussion and approval at this time. Thus you can enter the assignment knowing which research topic you will be pursuing. Upon completion of the interviewing process, please contact Dr. Kibbey again to appraise her of the situation. The cooperating teacher(s) will contact her to accept or reject your application to student teach with them. Should a rejection occur, the process will need to be repeated until such time as a receptive site can be located.
