Full Yahoo Review
Yahoo.com is one of the most popular search engines in the world. It is one of the top engines for many reasons. Having a very capable search engine is just one aspect of this great site.
The search window itself has many options to assist your search. You can search on the web, or for images, audio, video, directory, local news, and shopping. Though the default web searching option is the most popular, the other categories can be very helpful as well depending on your application.
There are some weaknesses in the yahoo search engine. One major drawbacks of the engine is the lack of truncation. Whereas some sites are able to match part of a word or phrase, yahoo can only search for exactly what you put into the window. This is a major drawback as other sites such as Google have this ability available for users.
Yahoo also offers a good email service free of charge to its users. To open one of these free email accounts, one needs to provide very little information. You are required to provide yahoo with your full name and postal zip code. They do request that you be over 18 years of age and that you don't use your free account to send out junk emails or spam. They also state in the licensing agreement that if your account is taken over, or someone steals your identity by way of your free email, it is not their fault and they can in no way be liable.
Another valuable tool yahoo has to offer is the browse feature along the left side of the main page. This allows you to browse through autos, finance, news and many more. Some people feel that these aren't useful because they are mostly, if not all paid ads, and not a full representation of what the web has to offer. There is some truth to this complaint, but its no necessarily worthless information. If you are looking to buy something, why wouldn't you want to meet people trying to sell things? In this way even paid ads can be useful. Also, paid advertisements are always current, which isn't always the case with some sites on the web.
All things considered, I feel the good outweighs the bad as far as Yahoo is concerned. Although the site may be rather busy, it has a lot to offer. The advertisements aren't really a drawback, unless the user has a very slow internet connection. Even though some may feel Yahoo isn't the best search engine, one must acknowledge yahoo as one of the top search engines, and also one of the oldest. When it comes to the internet, sites either sink or swim, and yahoo is definitely afloat.
