Herb Simon, a Professor at Carnegie Mellon, was known for his work he did in Economics, computer Science, and cognitive phycology. The overwhelming aspect that drove his desire to work in these fields was his great interest in human decision-making and problem-solving processes along with the implications of these processes for social institutions. Some of the work Simon did in computer science was work that revolved around the concept of using a computer as a tool for stimulating human thinking along with augmenting it with artificial intelligence. Simon is very important to the world of cognitive science because he is considered to be the founder of the field of artificial intelligence. Simon was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1978.
