Concept Map

for Sixth grade lesson

Rationale

Art can be used as a tool to educate people of all ages about growing issues that face our personal lives and impact our world and the people in it on a global level. The rainforest is one growing issue that needs our immediate attention because it is being destroyed at a miracle rate. The good news is that people of all ages can contribute in decreasing this rapid deforestation. The goal of this art lesson is to educate and bring awareness to students in the sixth grade level about the rainforest and eventually reach out to their school community by displaying their artwork along with a one page paper that describes their research findings . Students will learn that their are numerous resources in the rainforest that humans use on a daily basis and that their are alternative methods for decreases our use of these products that will eventually cut our need for rainforest products. Students will also learn that hundreds of tribes and forest people have lived for generations and generations in the rainforest, and by destroying the rainforest we are also taking away these peoples homes.
