Using The Job Diagnostic Survey And The Work
Climate Questionnaire To Determine Motivation Factors Of Professors From The
State University Of New York At Oswego.
Literature suggests that
motivated employees are positively associated with goal orientation, ability to
learn, and better overall performance.
Further research demonstrates that certain motivating factors must be
present in order for an employee to become motivated. Hackman and Oldham’s Job characteristics model and Deci and
Ryan’s self-determination theory of motivation conclude that aspects of
autonomy, competence, and relatedness to the work being performed, are vital to
experiencing motivation as an employee.
Relatively few have examined the factors experienced by university
professors. The present study attempts
to address this gap in our understanding of the motivating factors experienced
by university professors. In this
experiment, 63 university professors from the State University of New York at
Oswego completed surveys. Correlations
computed revealed significant correlations with many factors, suggesting high
levels autonomy, competence, and relatedness can be found when examining
professors from the State University of New York at Oswego.

The Relationship between Thought-Shape Fusion and
Word Recall Bias in a Community of Women with Self-Recognized Eating Disorders
Seventy-five Oswego State
female students answered a questionnaire containing the Eating Disorder
Inventory (EDI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Thought-Shape Fusion
Scale, and various questions concerning lifestyle habits as well as weight and
height. Following the questionnaire
participants were asked to rate a group of 42 words on an emotional scale. These 42 words were then presented again and
the participants were asked to recall as many words as possible from the
presented list with a one minute time period between presentation and recording. Twenty of the seventy-five participants were
categorized as being self-recognized and had a significant difference in
Thought-Shape fusion scores as compared to the other fifty-five
participants. The self-recognized group
also had a difference in the type of words that were recalled based on the
emotionality score that they gave to the words. Depression was found to not be a significant factor in predicting
participants who self-recognized themselves as having disordered eating
behaviors but correlated positively with those women who had elevated EDI
scores. These results support the
theory that eating disorders could be classified as a subset of obsessive
compulsion disorder based on the definition in the DSM.
