The Center for Teaching and Innovation serves SUNY Oswego faculty, students and staff. During the fall semester the Center has workshops for new faculty. The object is to help them feel welcome and become oriented to our campus. Throughout the year workshops are held for faculty and staff, including Winter BreakOut and Spring BreakOut. The Center organizes QUEST (a day of faculty, students, and staff presentations of scholarly research). Many students, faculty and staff attend this day, which highlights the scholarly research at Oswego.
The Center bridges the gap in knowledge between the latest technology and the effective classroom use of the technology. Individual instruction and consultation are provided for faculty and staff. There is a team of interns available for one-on-one consultation to help with faculty and staff technology projects.
In 1981, a Professional development Mission Statement was passed by the Faculty Assembly. It reads: Professional development is an activity, undertaken voluntarily, designed to aid individuals in broadening their scope and improving their performance of professional tasks. It is clearly understood that professional development is a very personal concept. An individual's program for professional development is the private property of that individual and is to be used in a manner that improves the individual's professional performance while simultaneously preserving individual privacy, dignity, integrity, and independence.
The Center for Teaching and Innovation is located in 34A and 34B Lanigan Hall. This building is a convenient location for the campus where there are few areas for faculty to meet. The Center includes a large conference room and an office. Faculty may reserve the conference room for faculty committee meetings and workshops by contacting the Center.
