Learning To See, Seeing to Learn
“How
technology has affected our students’ approach to learning”
Tuesday
Oct 21st Room 34A Lanigan Hall 4:00-5:00
Presenter: Rolando Arroya-Sucre, OLS
The freshman entering college in 2001 belong to what can be defined as the first generation of students fully immersed in a virtual world in which technology is not only a thoroughly familiar element in their daily life, but in which values, attitudes, emotions and skills are influenced by the technology tools available to this generation.
Research has provided useful findings pertaining special admission students’ academic preparedness, motivation, and learning skills. How are these characteristics impacted by the students’ approaches to and use of technology?
Has technology affected the ways in which students approach their academic experience?
In this workshop you will have an opportunity to explore and gain a richer understanding of the technology-related generational differences and how they affect the teaching learning interaction.
How to get support for
research (grants, etc)
Maria Nakamura, Associate Director, and Linda Cook of ORSP will be discussing the
various ways their office can help faculty in searching for and applying for
grants. In particular, they will discuss how to access some of this information
about grant and research opportunities that are on the internet. Also, the various
types of internal grants that are available will be discussed.
Tuesday Nov 18th
Room 34A Lanigan Hall 4:00-5:00
Presenters: Jerry Oberst, Admissions & Harry Shock, Student Advisement
