Test Construction Project

Create a 20 to 40-item test using a combination of
selection type, short answer, and supply type items.

Below is a list of items you should include for the paper and pencil test/exam project.  
 

1. Select a course or unit to work within (Course 1 or Math A-Grade level should be included).

 

2. Create a Blueprint/Table of Specs. This should include 5-15 learning outcomes to be assessed.  This makes use of Bloom's Taxonomy and percentages. Check the sample in your text. Use the local curriculum, the text book, or New York State Standards to help develop your learning outcomes.  

 

3. Include details on how to score the test.  How do you calculate the points on the test? Another teacher should be able to use this to calculate the score.

 

4. Create an answer key with each learning outcome keyed to each test question.

 

5. Create a complete set of directions.  This should include general overall directions as well as the directions for each section of the test. Include total number of points and points for each individual section.

 

6. Make sure there is a place for the students name and the date.

 

7. Make sure the test has a sampling of each type of selected response and constructed response item: essay, matching items, multiple-choice, binary choice, multiple binary choice, completion (short answer) and fill in the blank. You must have at least one question of each type on your test. Talk to me if you are writing a primary grade test (K-2)

 

8. Go through the EVALUATION OF CLASSROOM EXAMINATION to check technical aspects of the test.

 

9. Include a title page with information about the subject (s) and grade level. Make sure you have page numbers.

 

10. Include all names of the test makers. 

 

 11. Include a bibliography of the books or source materials used to complete the project . For example, if you used the NYS Standards, then that should be cited. Make sure you use APA format.
