Boolean 

 

  • Boolean is a searching technique useing operators to combine key words to produce a search.

Boolean Operators

 AND OR  NOT 

  • Adding these to your search will help to enhance your search.
  • They are not as easy to use as other methods and are not understood by some search engines.
  • AND is an inclusive search.
  • OR will generate hits with either.
  • NOT will generate hits that exclude a certain word
  • When using these they need to be in all capital letters

Search engine math

  • Search engine math is the technique of using symbols to combine key words to generate a search.
  • It is used by all search engines and is very easy to learn.

Math Symbols

  • Using symbols such as these will generate searches that are more meaningful.
  • The + is an inclusive search. When used between words it  will search for sites that include everything that has a  plus between it. An example would be: Cat+Dog This would generate hits that include both Cat and Dog.
  • The - is an exclusive search.

  • Ask is another search engine that is used
  • The advanced search feature is also very easy to use and help is available if needed.
