From Donald Crowe's Summer 1990 trip to Fiji: on top you see the interior
of Fiji President's summer home -- notice the red phone! -- and a similar,
recently made bark cloth; at bottom you see the house itself (at Somosomo,
Taveuni) and a group of local
artists (led by Fine Nailevu at left) who create patterns like the ones
shown below. More details and photos are available in Professor Crowe's
electronic
article (Visual Mathematics, v. 3, n. 2, 2001) and joint paper with
D. Nagy ("Cakaudrove-style masi kesa of
Fiji", Ars Textrina 18, 119-155, 1992).
