Concept Map of Islam and Slavery Rational The reason for this site is to teach many searching souls how the religion Islam help save many slaves during the years of American slavery. Islam is a way of life that one must attain if he/she is a true believer. Since slavery was a devastating phenomenon, we must know of all the angles of how it came to an end. Most school districts in the U.S. teaches their students that slavery was concluded by Abraham Lincoln (who is a "white" man). However, there were many other individuals of different race that help bring slavery to an end who are excluded and neglected by the American School curriculums. Young children grow up learning certain ways of how slavery started, expanded, and ended. This web quest is to teach all interested individuals about the beginning of slavery in the Middle east, Africa, Asia and America. Viewers will know the different treatment of slaves between the ancient time and the post ancient time. They will have the opportunity to learn about slavery from the perspective of the Islamic law. The viewers will also learn about some individual slaves that became important figures as they became freed by their Muslim masters. Also, with the knowledge of how Islam interacted with slavery, students will critically challenge written works about the topics and not just accept what is written. Challenging text books, information books and etc. will become a skill for these students as they will be critical readers. Not only will they settle for one form of information, but will be encouraged to always compare and contrast authentic information about history.
