Against the annexation of Texas

To the Senate and House of Representatives in Congress assembled.

The undersigned inhabitants of the town on Hannibal[,] County of Oswego and State of New York would respectfully represent that in their opinion the annexation of Texas to the United States would be attended with consequences detrimental to the interests[,]
peace & prosperity of this country and would seriously endanger the. . .of the Union. We would therefore earnestly protest against such annexation and would pray your honorable body to reject any proposal which may be made to that effect.
