What is a CMS?
Some comments in the survey indicated there may be a misunderstanding of exactly what a CMS is. Simply said, a Content Management System is software that lets technical-type folks build a web site that can be quickly and easily updated by non-technical people. The CMS itself is only a tool — people control the design and architecture of a web site.
Create a Pop-Up Window
Here's how to make a link open up in a pop-up window 1 in OmniUpdate.
First, create the HTML file you want to link to. Then in the file where you are linking from highlight the word(s) you are using for the link. Then:
- Click on the link icon
- Browse to the file and select the HTML file you just created but don't click insert yet.
- Click on the Popup Tab

- click Javascript popup
- browse again to the HTML file and select it again
- name the window – no spaces or special characters
- add the size in pixels (in the example pictured I used 700 x 300 px)
- position - this is where the popup will appear. If you leave it blank, it will appear in the upper left; c / c will center it.
- Under Options, I suggest choosing
- show scrollbars
- make windows resizable
- insert 'return false'
- click insert
To see how this looks, click on the word comments in the What is a CMS article.
1 Opens a new tab in Internet Explorer 7 (PC); works using Firefox (PC & Mac); works using Safari and Opera (Mac).
