Sophomore Success
Sophomore Service Day
Last year we got together in October and make "Hang in There" cards for every single first year student on campus (they LOVED it!). This fall, we'll be planning something fantastic, so stop back to find out how your sophomore class is giving back to the campus, and the local community.
Did you know that last year alone SUNY Oswego students completed over 25,000 hours of service to the community? Volunteering is a great opportunity to give back to the Oswego community you have been a part of for over a year now! Help out in a setting you may want to work at in the future, meet new friends, become more familiar with the city of Oswego, travel and volunteer over your winter or spring break, take a service-learning course and earn credit… There are numerous opportunities available for you to take advantage of:
- One day service projects (such as Sophomore Service Day)
- On-going projects (require at least a once-a-week commitment, such as Mentor Oswego and Adopt-A-Grandparent)
- Service-Learning courses (such as GST 302 offered through the Center for Service Learning and Community Service)
- Alternative Winter and Spring Break service trips (various locations and sites)
- Student Organizations with a service mission (Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross Club, Alpha Phi Omega)
- LakerLeads has over 150 sites in the community that would love to have student volunteers!
For more information about volunteer opportunities and programs, check out the Center for Service Learning and Community Service website. You can also stop by the Resource Center in the Compass to speak with someone or set up an appointment by emailing service@oswego.edu or calling 312-5360.
