SUNY Oswego is committed to sustaining a learner-centered environment that
provides excellent learning and growth opportunities for all of our students.
We honor and celebrate student diversity, acknowledging that multiple
perspectives invite and inspire new understandings.
"Diversity" can refer to individuals' gender, race, culture, language,
religion or sexual orientation. Disability represents another form of
human diversity. Students with disabilities--like students from other
non-majority groups-- bring experiences and perspectives that enrich our campus
community and strengthen our individual and collective learning.
As part of our commitment to providing all students with rich opportunities
for personal and academic growth and learning, SUNY Oswego offers equal
educational opportunities and reasonable accommodations. This is in accordance
with Federal law (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, 1973; Americans with
Disabilities Act, 1990) which state that:
"No qualified individual with disabilities shall, solely on the basis of
their disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of,
or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity in
higher education."
The college Policy and Procedures for Accommodating Individuals with
Disabilities are found in Section 5 of the Faculty and Professional Staff
Handbook.
The college offers services and accommodations, coordinated by the Disability Services Office, to
support equal opportunities for qualified learners who have disabilities.
Faculty play a vital role in this process. Our* purpose is to offer basic
information and resources to assist faculty with fulfilling their roles and
responsibilities to their students who have disabilities.
